“Enchanting Property with Stunning Views!”

Tony M. April 2014

We are a group of 5 sisters/best friends who have been taking a girls weekend for the past 15+ years. We graduated from an overnight at HOJO to a weekend away. We have stayed in many places but often come back to the mystic area as we enjoy it tremendously. This year I was able to find this home on Home Away. All of our trips to the area and we never knew Mason's Island existed. What a find. The location is between Mystic and Stonington for great shopping. Not enough can be said about the home itself. The house is huge with plenty of common rooms and more sleeping area than you need. The newly renovated kitchen is to die for, even if you don't cook like our group. It was a rainy chilly weekend but we just had to sit outside on the enclosed porch and enjoy the view. You feel like you are actually in the water. Everywhere we looked we found another treasure in this home that we had missed before. It is so peaceful and serene even the osprey didn't mind us checking them out. It was decided before we left that we would no longer look for a new place to go each year. We could not top this house, nor do we want to. Glori and Chuck are so helpful if you need them. We would all recommend this home to rent for a long weekend or week. I actually plan to bring my husband here for a weekend away for the two of us, then the girls will be back.

“Incredible Property”    5 of 5  Jayne P
This is an incredible property with wonderful owners.
The property:
The pictures show a great, inviting house and location. The reality is even better! The location is easy to find if you follow the directions. The house is wonderful! It is quite spacious, with many areas to relax and be mesmerized by the water. The views from inside and outside the house must be experienced to truly appreciate. We had great weather, so were able to utilize the outdoor seating often. The seating areas inside are numerous, you will never feel crowded here. The kitchen is fabulous! It is roomy with great updates and is well stocked with anything you might need. The bedrooms are spacious with very comfortable beds....you will get great sleep at night. The house has three full bathrooms and each shower has great water-pressure.
The owners:
Wonderful people. Communication with the owners was fantastic. They sent information about the history of the house and its changes/updates (adds to the appreciation of the house), guidelines as to eating options (restaurants, take-out and grocery store options), suggestions of near-by attractions (though you may not want to leave the house once you arrive) and thorough instructions about everything in the house. You can feel the love they have for this house. Thank you to them for sharing this gem with us!
We look forward to renting this house again and do not hesitate to recommend it to friends and family who will give this house the appreciation and care it deserves.

“Magnificent setting in a lovely home on the water”       5 of 5  Arleen L.
This property exceeded our expectations as it was nestled in a private location but was equipped with everything you could possibly want or need for a wonderful vacation on the Mystic river. The dock and the small private beach enabled you to go boating or swimming right from the house.
The owners were amazingly responsive to any communication and were absolutely delightful. There are actually two master bedroom suites with bathrooms that are both very spacious with plenty of room for clothing and accessories. The kitchen is equipped with absolutely anything a person could desire. It was recently renovated and is beautiful and functional. My family hopes to stay here next year as I am sure we could not possibly find a better home for our summer vacation in this area. Stoning ton and Mystic offer so much to do and yet when you are at this home you feel secluded in your own world enjoying the birds and all that surrounds you.

“Glorious Stay --- Feels like floating on the sea!”      5 of 5  Martha P
This is our third year staying here and it is quite simply the most relaxing glorious place to stay. It keeps getting better. The first year we were captivated by the sun room --- the places sits atop a rock outcropping and you are quite literally surround by water. It is easy for the day to slip by until the sun sets directly over the dock -- stunning. This year we were amazed by the new kitchen -- it is a chef's dream and the glass fish display that sits atop is wonderful. You know this is a special home and are grateful Glori and family share it. There are so many kind touches -- gentle directions on where to find things, how to use things, where you might get a bite, take a walk or go to a farmer's market. Feels like an old friend or dear family members has let you use the place while they are away. Unlike other shore places -- you are not on top of your neighbors -- but surrounded by lush land, marshes, water and the osprey family. At times I do wish there was no internet connection! -- so one could be on the rocks and off the grid. You will not find a more peaceful, well equipped, beautiful place on the shore. My 90 year old mother who has dementia waked up every morning arrived on the sun porch and exclaimed -- 'what a beautiful spot" as if each day it was the first time she saw the ocean and blue sky.

Right on the water, beautiful views, lovely sunroom with dining table so we could enjoy the sunsets while we dined.
Beds were comfortable, the owners supplied information about restaurants and attractions nearby. They even provided a bottle of wine as a welcoming gift!

“Fantastic!”         5 of 5   Tom, Jackie and the kids, Central Virginia
What a neat spot; contemporary design on the outside and perfectly preserved 1950's bathrooms on the inside. The location is superb - the kitchen albeit small if more than 2 people want to be in involved, is a cook and entertainers dream. The house rambles on presenting quiet nooks and crannies where one can get away to take a nap or catch up with a good book, We were in town for a large family wedding in nearby Mystic just 5 easy minutes up the road and we couldn't have picked a better place to be. The guest computer came in handy when my laptop decided to take a short vacation of it's own. The high end Weber grill was sweet too. A couple of nephews that were staying elsewhere on Masons Island enjoyed the dock for crabbing and fishing - nothing could have been or gone better.
Some of the interior photos could use some updating, flooring has changed in the sun-room and there is a large dining table with good chairs. Carpet in the main living area has been replaced with easy to clean wood flooring and the 2 facing white couches have also been replaced. Nice upgrades all around.
Owner and manager when needed was great to deal deal with.

Peaceful, serene, lovely. It was just incredible, even though we had poor weather, it did not matter. Every window has a beautiful view outside. Very private. The owners are wonderfully accommodating and a joy to do business with. I highly recommend this property. We will be back!!!!!

“Our best vacation house rental to date!”   5 of 5 Kathryne G., Framingham, MA
We live in Massachusetts, and always go to some nearby place and rent a vacation home during the kids' spring break. This was the best pick so far, and we will definitely rent this place again. The pictures on the site don't do it justice - almost every room has a beautiful view of something (the osprey nest and river marsh, or the bay/sound itself). It's quiet, idyllic, and 5-10 minutes (by car) from Old Mystic town, Stonington, the Aquarium, Mystic Seaport, and much more. What a find this is! If you rent here you will not be disappointed - even though we had rotten weather almost the whole stay, the house was so great that we didn't mind sitting inside the sun porch and watching the choppy waves lap against the pier. There's even a great entertainment system and strong wireless if you need to plunk the kids down in front of a movie or game. Terrific place.

“Enchanting Property with Stunning views!”   5 of 5 Tony M., Union Township
We chose this property primarily because of its Mason Island location and the lovely photos shown on the website. This home, however, must be visited to truly appreciate. The water views, especially at sunset, we're beautiful to the point of being almost surreal...everything in the home was so comfortable and well laid out, that we often found it difficult to venture out!

Will definitely be returning...

Thanks Tony

“Wonderful Getaway”    5 of 5 Rose,  Murrysville, PA. USA
Thanks to the owners for sharing this wonderful home. The setting is breathtaking from the moment that you walk into the house. Glistening waters visible from a panoramic view. The home has everything you need for a comfortable stay. So peaceful and unbelievable sunsets. We enjoyed exploring Stonington, Chester, quaint New England towns. The Island is a great place to walk or ride a bike. The Beluga whales at the Mystic Aquarium were also a big hit. Wonderful stay.

“Serene and comfortable”    5 of 5 Jonathan L.
What a lovely experience. The owners were incredibly gracious and helpful. The home itself is comfortable and fully equipped and had plenty of room for our group of 4 adults and two children. We cooked, enjoyed the roof deck, sun room, and fireplace, and took long walks around the island, where we saw deer, turkey, cormorants, and herons. We explored Mystic and Stonington and had some great meals and beach walks. Mystic House is the perfect property for a relaxing getaway any time of year.

“Magical Mystic Home”   5 of 5  Mary R.
This home and its property has the best setting along the Connecticut shoreline. The views are truly awe-inspiring. We rented this home as a temporary residence until we purchased a home in the area. We loved every moment of it. It is romantic, quiet, private and spacious. It has good separation between the two bedroom areas, which makes it perfect for two couples. It was just the two of us, but when we had guests, they were upstairs in a spacious area with beautiful views. The home has everything you need in a vacation home. The linens included high quality sheets, pillows, duvets, and towels. The kitchen was stocked with All Clad cookware and nice glassware. We loved the native stone fireplace and the four season sunroom which offered prime views of the Mystic River tides. The house enjoys its very own cove and a small private beach. The owners work very hard to maintain the home and offer great books, videos and original art inspired by the region. We were mesmerized each morning, day & evening by the views of the sea, but most of all by the indescribable sunsets. If you are fortunate to stay in this home, regardless of the weather conditions, you have indeed experienced one of the most spectacular settings on earth.

“Wonderful Weekend Getaway!”     5 of 5   Lindsay, Virginia
We returned last night from this special property and town. What an amazing home and view! We were blown away when we arrived. The pictures are spot on, but at the same time dont do it justice. Driving up on the private gravel road really helps to melt the real world away and put you in vacation mode. The rooms were very spacious, clean and homey. The kitchen had everything you could have wanted and more! the sliding glass doors and windows in the sunroom allowed for a wonderful spot to gather and play cards, eat meals, and sit around and talk with our other guests, while looking out at the gorgeous bay area. We enjoyed the large television to watch our favorite new england sports games, and very much appreciated the use of the WiFi. If I had more reasons to be in Mystic each year, I'd rent this home again and again.

“A place to relax, renew, remember.......”    5 of 5   Oz Family, Melbourne Australia
A very special place - spectacular setting in any weather, warm & generous welcome from owners, & excellent support from agent. We stayed as an extended family group of 4, aged 15 to 85. Everyone loved it. Living spaces are large & inviting (nooks for all), furniture and fittings are high quality, and the kitchen would make a chef beam.

I could happily live in the sunroom, surrounded on 3 sides by water - it feels like a houseboat without the wobbles.

Thank you for our sojourn in your beautiful home.

Very highly recommended.

“A Place to Remember”    5 of 5    M. Patrick W.Canton, MA
Warm summer day, kids combing the rocks, nets in hand, looking for crabs and minnows, fishing off the dock, kayaking in the harbor...no mention of video games. Believe it or not this can still happen, but it takes a place like this! There are many things to do and see in the area, but the house always beckoned us back. The kitchen was well stocked and ready to be used for just burgers or a local seafood feast. The media room has a computer and large screen TV, but I found myself sitting in front of the floor to ceiling window more often than not.

The owners could not have been more accommodating. They were just a phone call away if we needed anything, and the property mgr. gave us some good tips too.

What a great place. We look forward to capturing those summer days again!

“Beauty + Tranquility = Perfection!!!”      5 of 5  Deb, Pittsburgh
I had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful home in early August. The pictures on the web cannot begin to do it justice! The house is a combination of quiet elegance and peaceful comfort. From the sunroom to the theater room, and everything in between this house lacked for nothing. We were graced with exquisite wildlife from ospreys nesting feet away to egrets prowling the shore; green herons preening majestically on the pier to the comical seagulls vying for your attention. And probably the most poignant sight was the doe and fawn walking lazily through the grass and into the back yard--Gorgeous! And perhaps the most amazing moments were the ones spent watching the ever-changing hues of the evening sky as the sun set over the water. All in all this trip was amazing!

“Home away from Home - PERFECT vacation”    5 of 5 Patti, Murrysville PA
The minute you drive onto the property the views beckon and peace descends. The pictures online don't do this home justice. The interior is professionally and beautifully decorated in a way that surrounds you with warmth and a feeling that you are home. My FAVORITE spot was the sunroom that overlooks the water. I spent 90% of my time in this space. From sunrise watching the egrets to the spectacular sunsets, this home doesn't disappoint. Every need and is anticipated, there was nothing missing. I found myself wishing it was winter so I could sit under a blanket and enjoy the beautiful fireplace. I could see myself enjoying a crisp autumn day surrounded by spectacular color, and spring, I am sure would have it's own secrets to discover. This home should be on the top of anyone's list, whether it is summer, winter, spring or fall. There is so much to do.....or do nothing at all. This place is a photographers dream. The owners are wonderful. I loved, loved, loved every minute and I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

When we arrived, the house was even more breath-taking than the pictures on the web. The privacy, sunsets, ample space, beautiful furniture and wonderful layout made this an ideal home for our two families. The location was perfect to make our way into downtown Mystic, the museum and the aquarium. The two minute ride to the gourmet market at the entrance to the island was a great plus. I shot picture after picture of the sunsets, the house itself and the continual parade of boats and still will only be satisfied with another trip back.

“Great house in a great location”      5 of 5  David, Brooklyn NY
Having spent a week in August at this lovely house, our only regret was that we hadn't aranged for a longer stay. The house is spacious, comfortable, and nicely furnished. The Masons Island setting is superb -- directly on the water with a very secluded feel, but only minutes away from beaches, restaurants, wineries, casinos, shopping and all of the other activities that the Mystic/Stonington area has to offer. And the sunsets from the sunroom or the dock are even more amazing than the pictures on this site suggest! The owners are very helpful, gracious and a pleasure to deal with. We look forward to returning for another enjoyable stay.

“MY MOST EXCELLENT VACATION”   5 of 5  Holly P  Colchester CT
Just returned from a week at this fabulous home on Mason's Island. The layout was superb nicely designed floorplan - clearly set up for family entertainment. Everything we might have wanted from a kitchen was there - and more - fun dishes galore! All beds were comfortable - everyone slept well. The setting is peaceful and serene - birdwatching outstanding. Mystic and Stonington both have lots to offer for food and entertainment. Easy to get to downtown from house. Walking and biking on the island were great. Mother nature coopertated too! Owners were most gracious and accomodating. Listing description consistent with reality - wish there were more hide a beds or futons so additional guests could be accomodated on an occasional night. House is well maintained and was clean and neat when we arrived. Highly recommend this home for a relaxing family vacation. Really enjoyed the view right there! Would definitely rent again.
